About the Band

Milktoast Intolerant is a hard-driving rock and roll band known for its raucous, bluesy, over-the-top guitar based music. Their songs tend to reflect their somewhat unique views on life, love, religion, and politics. Their no-holds-barred, politically incorrect approach to their lyrics are definitely NOT for the faint of heart (or the Milktoast).

The roots of Milktoast Intolerant go back to the mid-90's on Chicago's south side when Ray Glowa and Chris Hoch (who had played together in high school in a band called "Rogues Gallery" and had been writing songs together ever since) teamed up to form a band. On the advice of a dimwitted drummer, they called the band Government Cheese. The name appealed to Glowa and Hoch because it reflected the “Let them eat cake” (or cheese) attitude the US Government exhibited toward the problems of poverty and hunger in our nation. The dimwitted drummer thought it was “fuggin’ vantastic".

Finding it difficult to recruit band members who wanted to commit to the hard work and dedication of a successful band, Government Cheese consisted of Glowa and Hoch and an endless stream of guest musicians, friends, acquaintances, and ex-convicts. Nonetheless, Government Cheese was able to carve its niche in the local Chicago music scene with crowd pleasing songs such as "Hot Monkey Love", "Junk Food Love", Disposable People", and "Queen Bee" and a wildly energetic stage show. Their music was being played regularly on radio stations such as WCBR in Chicago and WXRX in Rockford. However, the unreliability of the "guest musicians" made for inconsistencies in quality from show to show and the band eventually split up.

In 2007, Glowa and Hoch decided to team up once again. Since it was discovered that there was another band using the name Government Cheese, Glowa and Hoch decided to rename their band Milktoast Intolerant. Now splitting time between Arizona and Chicago, Milktoast Intolerant gets together whenever possible to rehearse, record, and play shows. Their debut album, "Hot Monkey Love", was released on July 4th, 2009.
